Sony Pictures Television Intl. TV drama “The Game” will bow on China state broadcaster CCTV8 on Sept. 22. TV skein is the first made by SPTI’s Huaso, a joint venture with the China Film Group.
Skein, based on Liu Ping’s bestseller “The Lunatic,” was written by Ren Yun in a collaboration with script consultants from Hollywood and China — Li Xiaoming and Gerald Sanoff.
The 24-episode hourlong follows two friends and business colleagues divided by betrayal.
Huaso previously produced telepics for CCTV.
“The Game” is helmed by Hong Kong’s Yuen Ying Ming, a veteran of numerous drama series in China and Hong Kong in the past two decades, including “The Greed of Man” and “The Legend of Da Qi Hero.”
China Intl. Television Corp., the global distribution agent of programs owned by CCTV, will distribute “The Game” within China, while SPTI will distribute elsewhere in its original form and as a scripted format.
