James Brown, Phil Simms and Cris Collinsworth have been named co-hosts of Showtime’s new weekly football series “Inside the NFL.”
Skein, which will air on Wednesday nights beginning Sept. 10, moves over to the pay cabler after a run at competitor HBO that began in 1977.
Brown, Simms and Collinsworth are under contract with CBS Sports — Brown as a studio host, Simms and Collinsworth as commentators — and their inclusion on “Inside the NFL” made sense as Showtime is also under the CBS Corp. umbrella.
In addition to their “Inside the NFL” duties, Brown will continue anchoring “The NFL Today” on CBS, while Simms will once again be paired with Jim Nantz, and Collinsworth will work for NBC on its Sunday-night football package.
In other NFL-related news, NBC has named Dan Patrick co-host of “Football Night in America,” reuniting him with Keith Olbermann. The two were paired from 1992-97 as anchors on ESPN’s “SportsCenter.”
Olbermann said, “I can’t stop Dan Patrick from working with me again; I can only hope to contain him.”
