‘Shield’ yields fewer viewers

'Sons of Anarchy' scores 1.2/3 in adults 18-49

FX’s “The Shield” kicked off its seventh and final season Tuesday at 10 p.m. with a 1.0 rating/3 share in adults 18-49. The series was off 13% in that key demo from the April 2007 premiere of its sixth season, and 4% in total viewers, with 2.1 million.

Faring slightly better against GOP Convention-bolstered cable news competish Wednesday at 10 p.m., the premiere of FX biker drama “Sons of Anarchy” Wednesday at 10 scored a 1.2/3 in adults 18-49, ranking third among all non-news programs on cable for the night. The perf was 33% better than that of FX’s last series premiere, the July 2007 bow of “Damages.”
