Prometheus makes Travel plans

Channel to visit 'Vegas,' 'Bridget's Beaches'

Prometheus Entertainment, the shingle behind E! Entertainment’s hit reality skein “The Girls Next Door,” has secured several series commitments from the Travel Channel — including one hosted by “Girls Next Door” co-star Bridget Marquardt.

All told, Prometheus is set to produce 23 hours of original content for the cabler. Deal comes as Prometheus, led by Kevin Burns, continues to expand its presence as a prolific producer of nonfiction fare.

“They’re talented storytellers and have a unique way of bringing shows to life and working with talent,” Travel Channel senior VP Michael Klein said of Prometheus. “They have an authentic way of immersing you in that experience. And for Travel Channel, it’s all about that immersive experience.”

New projects include “Bridget’s Beaches,” which will feature Marquardt as she explores some of the world’s top seaside destinations. Project has a 13-episode order from Travel.

The cabler has also picked up “Vegas Revolutions,” a six-episode look at the city’s transformation over the past decade back into an adult playground. And Travel has already started airing Prometheus’ “Food Paradise,” which looks at regional cuisine and noteworthy local establishments.

Meanwhile, Travel also is developing a pilot with Prometheus that focuses on American culture and specific destinations, such as Hershey, Pa., that are defined by unique elements of Americana.

Burns and Prometheus have made a name for themselves in recent years by producing several documentary features in conjunction with Lucasfilm. Company was behind History Channel’s May premiere of “Indiana Jones and the Ultimate Quest.”

The production company also worked with George Lucas and Lucasfilm to produce and direct the 2003 feature “Empire of Dreams: The Story of the ‘Star Wars’ Trilogy.”

Burns is also exec producer on History’s new doc “Batman Unmasked,” which explores the history of the character, as well as the companion special “Batman Tech.”

Prometheus is also behind E!’s “High Maintenance 90210” and National Geographic Channel’s “Hollywood Science.”

Along with Prometheus, which he founded in 1999, Burns also runs Synthesis Entertainment with Jon Jashni. Synthesis was behind 2006’s feature “Poseidon,” as well as the upcoming “Voyage to the Bottom of the Sea.”
