NBC drama topper Katie O’Connell has been upped to exec VP of the department.

O’Connell had previously served as senior VP since April 2006. She reports to NBC Entertainment exec VP Teri Weinberg.

Weinberg called O’Connell an “integral part” of NBC’s shift toward more year-round program development.

O’Connell oversees all drama development and has overseen current drama programming since a February restructuring.

Before moving to Burbank, O’Connell served as senior VP of New York development for the net.

O’Connell’s slate includes the new entries “My Own Worst Enemy,” “Kings” and “The Philanthropist” and returning skeins such as “Heroes,” “Law & Order,” “ER” and “Chuck.”

Exec is also part of the development and acquisition of international titles such as “Merlin” (which is also airing on the BBC) and “The Listener” (coming from CTV).

Before NBC, O’Connell served as exec VP of development and current programming at Imagine TV, working on series including “Arrested Development,” “24” and “The PJs.” She also spent time in the comedy department at CBS.
