SAN SEBASTIAN, Spain — “Norteado,” the debut feature by Mexican director Rigoberto Perezcano, swept San Sebastian’s 14th Films in Progress competition, taking all three major plaudits: the TVE kudos, the Casa de America nod and the Industry Award, given by top Spanish post-production houses.

Films in Progress showcased six Latin American films that are in the final stages of post-production and seeking completion finance.

“Norteado” tracks the persistent attempts by a young Mexican to cross the formidable U.S.-Mexico border wall.

“Norteado” is a co-production of Mexico’s Tiburon Films, McCormick and Foprocine and Germany’s NiKo Films, with financial support from Mexico’s Imcine Film Institute plus local film tax coin.

As a result of the three awards, the film will receive a $14,800 cash prize, its remaining post-production expenses will be paid, and pubcaster TVE will purchase Spanish television rights.

Perezcano and producer Edgar San Juan were in San Sebastian to receive the awards.
