Starz Media has tapped Gene George to serve as the production shingle’s new exec VP of worldwide distribution.

George was most recently prexy of Regent Worldwide. In his new gig, the exec will oversee all sales and distribution for the company, working with domestic and international broadcasters and seeking to expand Starz Media’s global business.

Burbank-based exec reports to Kent Rice, Starz Media’s prexy-chief operating officer.

“We need someone like Gene to generate deals with international broadcasters, and to expand our distribution network in the U.S. as well,” Rice said. George will work with Film Roman and Starz Prods. prexy Scott Greenberg, Anchor Bay Entertainment topper Bill Clark and creative development exec VP Bill Hamm.

Besides Regent Worldwide, George was president of NewStar Worldwide; he also worked at indie outfit Arista Films.

Starz Media’s “breadth of productions — for TV, theatrical release, DVD distribution and new-media platforms — and its growing network of international partners lay the foundation for significant growth,” Rice said.
