Fox takes on more ‘dance’

Net orders fifth season of competition show

Fox has given an early fifth-season pickup to summer sensation “So You Think You Can Dance.”

“Dance” regularly wins its two weekly time periods among adults 18-49, 18-34, teens and total viewers. The powerful one-two punch of the show’s Wednesday performance episode and Thursday results show has helped Fox maintain its demo lead over the summer months.

Last Wednesday’s episode led its hour, averaging a 2.9 rating/8 share among adults 18-49, and 8.6 million viewers overall.

The dance competition, now in its fourth season, first bowed in July 2005. Cat Deeley hosts, while Nigel Lythgoe serves as judge and is also exec producer and director.

Other exec producers include Simon Fuller and Barry Adelman. Fuller’s 19 Entertainment and Dick Clark Prods. are behind the show.
