Disney inks Europe film, TV deals

Studio teams with TV, VOD unit at Mipcom

Disney-ABC-ESPN inked several film and TV series deals with European free-to-air TV and VOD operators at Mipcom on Tuesday.

In Spain, Disney has signed a three-year deal with DeAPlaneta’s commercial web Antena 3, giving A3 rights to air first runs of films including “Dark Water,” “Scary Movie 4” and “The Guardian.”

Agreement also includes TV series to air mainly on A3’s kids block Megatrix, starting with Disney Channel’s original series “Wizards of Waverly Place.”

In another Iberian deal, Disney has sealed a multiyear video-on-demand agreement with Portuguese telco Sonaecom’s Clix SmarTV IPTV service. Clix’s viewers will be able to stream films including “Wall-E” and “There Will Be Blood” plus a selection of library titles.

For the Czech Republic and Slovakia, Disney has concluded another multiyear VOD agreement to launch movies on cabler Kabel Plus’ VOD service, Metoo.

Disney also inked with Romania’s free-to-air channel Prima TV for new and library films, TV dramas such as “Brothers and Sisters” and “Private Practice,” toon series and branded family slot “The Wonderful World of Disney.”
