Disney-ABC ups Kevin Brockman

Becomes exec VP of global communications

Longtime Disney flack Kevin Brockman has been upped to exec VP of global communications for the Disney-ABC Television Group.

Promotion gives Brockman added communication oversight of Disney’s international TV division, as well as publishing arm Hyperion.

Brockman, who served as senior VP since 2005, continues to oversee corporate, news and entertainment communication for the ABC Television Network, including ABC Entertainment, ABC News and ABC Daytime.

He also handles all communication for Disney Channels Worldwide, ABC Family, SoapNet, Radio Disney, Walt Disney TV Animation, Buena Vista Prods., ABC Studios, ABC-owned stations and ABC Corporate Initiatives.

Brockman reports to Walt Disney Co. corporate communications exec VP Zenia Mucha, as well as Disney-ABC TV Group prexy Anne Sweeney. Both execs announced the promotion Thursday.

“Over the past several years I’ve come to rely on his instincts, respect his expertise and trust his integrity,” Sweeney said. “He motivates his team by example, inspires through character and understands what it takes to get the job done.”

Brockman first joined ABC in 1997 as VP of media relations for ABC Entertainment on the West Coast. He worked his way up the ladder from there, adding Disney-ABC TV Group duties in 2004.

Exec previously helped launch UPN as head of the weblet’s corporate and entertainment communications; before that, he handled PR and marketing for Fox TV Stations Prods. (“Cops”). Brockman began in theatrical publicity on Broadway and Off Broadway and then served as manager of PR for Radio City Music Hall Prods. before moving to Los Angeles.
