The Palm Springs fest celebrated its 19th edition with a gala that included a tribute to founder Sonny Bono on Saturday, the 10th anniversary of his death. As the evening turned somber, presenter Jamie Foxx perked up the crowd.
“I’ll give $1,000 to you if you can play ‘Soulja Boy,’ ” he said to the band, referring to the popular rap song.
The gala moved at a quick pace as awards were bestowed on Nikki Blonsky, James Newton Howard, Emile Hirsch, Sean Penn, Marion Cotillard, Daniel Day-Lewis, Halle Berry, Jerry Weintraub, “Juno” and the ensemble cast of “Hairspray.”
The festivities continued at the Parker Palm Springs, where the after-party was held, and the next morning, as the Screen Actors Guild Foundation had its brunch at Dale’s Lost Highway. “Hairspray’s” Amanda Bynes and Elijah Kelley plus SAG’s Pamm Fair were among those attending.
