HONG KONG — Brazilian giant TV Globo is continuing to build bridges between Latin America and Southeast Asia by lensing telenovela “Tres Irmas” in Bali, Indonesia.

The romantic comedy follows three women at a beach resort full of fishermen and surfers. Aside from the trio’s search for love, the series addresses concerns about property speculation, ecology and the impact of tourism on a historical city. Locations include Uluwatu beach, the temple of Tanah Lot and Balinese capital Denpasar.

Skein is helmed by Antonio Calmon, with first unit and general direction by Dennis Carvalho and general direction by Jose Luiz Villamarim.

At last year’s Mipcom TV mart, TV Globo inked several deals for telenovelas and miniseries with Southern China’s Guanzhou TV, Teledifuaso de Macau and WPP in Vietnam.
