Punit Goenka, the eldest son of Zee founder Subhash Chandra, has been appointed CEO of Zee Entertainment Enterprises.
He replaces Pradeep Guha with immediate effect.
Guha, whose three-year stint coincided with a revival in the fortunes of Zee as a general entertainment broadcaster, quit on Monday. He plans to launch an outdoor advertising business Street Culture that will be part of his Culture Country group.
Goenka has worked his way up Zee from business head to network operating officer.
Part of India’s largest vertically integrated media group, Zee posted Rupees 15 billion ($348 million) revenues last year.
Guha is one of India’s best known media execs and was formerly prexy of the Times of India Group. At Zee he oversaw a move into print through Diligent Media. His Culture Country has produced movies including “Fiza” and “Tehzeeb.”
