“Black Ice,” the latest release from rockers AC/DC, sold 780,000 copies between Oct. 20 and Saturday at Wal-Mart, Sam’s Club and Acdc.com, with the U.S. one of 29 countries in which the album will hold the No. 1 slot.
Disc will be the band’s first No. 1 debut when Nielsen SoundScan releases the top 200 sales figures today. AC/DC reps released the sales figures Tuesday morning.
Since the global release on Oct. 20, “Black Ice” has topped charts in the U.K., Germany, Canada, France, Japan, Ireland, Italy, New Zealand and elsewhere. In the U.K., it was the band’s first No. 1 in 28 years.
The album sold nearly 200,000 copies in its first day in the U.S. More than 5 million copies of “Black Ice” have been shipped worldwide.
Catalog sales also have been rising in recent months. In the eight weeks leading up to the release of “Black Ice,” AC/DC albums sold 800,000 units worldwide, according to the label.
