MEXICO CITY — Colombian pop crooner Juanes and German dark rockers Tokio Hotel dominated last night’s MTV Latin America Awards held for the first time in Guadalajara, Mexico.

The acts took four Tongue awards, with Juanes grabbing artist of the year, rock artist and best artist — central. Tokio Hotel won for song of the year with their angst-filled ballad “Monsoon,” which also picked up ringtone kudos. They also nabbed international artist honors and best fan club.

Guadalajara-based synth-pop band Belanova took home two awards, with video of the year for their song “1, 2, 3, Go!” and best artist — north. And Chilean pop group Kudai won the group or duo nod and pop artist kudos.

Music veterans Cafe Tacvba took home their second alternative artist award, while newcomers Ximena Sarinana and Infierno 18 won the Coke Zero Breakthrough Artist and promising artist awards, respectively.

Tokio Hotel wasn’t the only English-language group to win, with the Jonas Brothers and Jared Leto’s 30 Seconds to Mars both garnering honors.

MTV Latin America also announced the winner of its pan-regional talent search run through lazona.com, as Mexico’s Moving On took the stage to debut their song “Audioromance.”
