Silvio Berlusconi to revive ‘porno tax’

Adult film industry up in arms over decision

Rupert Murdoch isn’t the only one fuming over tax hikes announced by Italian prime minister Silvio Berlusconi in his fiscal package to fight the economic crisis.

The adult movie industry is also up in arms over the Italo media tycoon-turned-pol’s decision to revive the notorious  “porno tax” that’s been lying dormant since 2002. Beginning in January, the 25% duty will be imposed on films featuring explicit “non-simulated” sex acts. Culture minister Sandro Bondi, will have the task of deciding what’s not porn and what’s not.

Tinto Brass, a director of erotic films, deemed the news “devastating, disastrous” and says the tax will do nothing to fight the gloom enveloping the country.

“I tell you,” he says, “What’s more optimistic than the sight of a beautiful behind?”
