‘Wicked’ storms through Florida

Road Grosses

NEW YORK — The road rose by a little more than 1% in Week 45 (March 31-April 6), despite a week off for “Tuna Does Vegas,” closing the week with $12,686,344.

The touring production of “Wicked” broke the house record for Fort Lauderdale, Fla.’s Broward Theater again this week and had the week’s highest gross at $1,463,925. Its sister productions in Chicago and Los Angeles fell by about $200,000 and $260,000, respectively, though both shows still pulled in more than $1 million.

Half the shows on the slate saw a downturn, including “Monty Python’s Spamalot,” which dropped back to the mid-$600,000 range, but the other half more than compensated. “The Phantom of the Opera,” “The Lion King,” “Avenue Q,” and “Mamma Mia!” all saw six-figure upticks. “Mamma Mia!” alone pulled in $500,000 more this week, nearly doubling its previous frame’s gross.
