A new production of Disney tuner “Tarzan” will make the rounds of four regional theaters in 2009.

Production, from a creative team topped by helmer and choreographer Lynne Taylor-Corbett, will bow at Atlanta’s Theater of the Stars in January 2009, followed by stints at American Musical Theater of San Jose, Calif.; North Carolina Theater in Raleigh, N.C.; and Dallas Summer Musicals in Dallas, Texas. All four theater companies co-produce.

With tunes by Phil Collins and book by David Henry Hwang based on the 1999 Disney pic, “Tarzan” opened on Broadway in 2006 but proved a box office disappointment, shuttering in July 2007. A retooled version opened last spring in the Netherlands, and another production will open in Germany in October.

Theater of the Stars last year preemed the legit production of “High School Musical” that has gone on to tour the country. For the new staging of “Tarzan,” design team includes Kenneth Foy (sets), Ken Billington (lights) and Paul Rubin (aerial designs).
