Road continues to slide

Road Grosses

NEW YORK — The road continued to drop, this week a little less than $2 million in Week 34 (Jan. 14-20): The 13-show slate is down 11% to $15,286,905.

The week was marked by less geographical movement than last: More mobile tuners stayed put, such as “Wicked” in Cincinnatti, which is continuing to maintain a gross of more than $1.4 million.

Moving out of the profitable Fox Theater left “High School Musical” down $460,000, while “Jersey Boys” played just six perfs in its new Houston venue and dropped $290,000, accounting for part of the decline.

In fact, the only shows to make any gains at all were “Monty Python’s Spamalot” and “The Phantom of the Opera,” along with “The Lion King” in Pittsburgh, which returned to an eight-perf week.

The highest-grossing show on the charts was the Cheetah tour of “The Lion King” in Mexico City, with 25,952,361 pesos ($2,396,700).
