Princess Grace unveils award winners

List includes Arin Arbus, Ben Gunderson

The Princess Grace Foundation-USA has announced its 2008 award winners for theater, dance and film.

Legit up-and-comers on the list include directing fellow Arin Arbus, who will work with Theater for a New Audience; acting scholarship recipient Ben Gunderson, attending North Carolina School of the Arts; and playwriting fellow Kara Lee Corthron.

Statue awards, given out to distinguished prior winners, will go to Alec Hammond, who won in 1995 for set design, and filmmaker Rose Bond, who picked her first Princess Grace in 1989.

Works-in-progress awards went to playwright Sheila Callaghan and legit helmer Maureen Towey, among others. Rosemary Newcott and Chi Wang Yang received special project awards for theater.

The foundation, a public charity formed in 1982, has helped fund career development for a long list of creatives including playwright Tony Kushner, helmer Anna D. Shapiro (“August: Osage County”) and “SpongeBob SquarePants” creator Eric Hillenburg.

The 2008 awards will be handed out in Gotham Oct. 15.
