‘Molly’ included at Colorado summit

Denver Center play directed by Marshall

The Denver Center Theater Company’s fourth annual Colorado New Play Summit includes a new version of “The Unsinkable Molly Brown” helmed by Kathleen Marshall (“The Pajama Game”).

The revamp of the 1960 tuner, with music and lyrics by Meredith Willson (“The Music Man”), will have a new book by Dick Scanlan (“Thoroughly Modern Millie”), based on the original by Richard Morris.

New production of the musical, a fictionalized take on the life of a Titanic survivor, will incorporate previously unheard Willson tunes into the score.

“Molly Brown” joins a slate that includes four plays commissioned by the Denver Center Theater Company: “Eventide,” by Eric Schmiedl (based on the Kent Haruf novel); “When Tang Met Laika,” by Rogelio Martinez; “Take Me to the River,” by Constance Congdon; and “Flooded,” by Julie Marie Myatt.

Summit is set for Feb. 12-14.
