London theatergoers get discounts

Mackintosh offering reduced prices

Cameron Mackintosh is looking to drum up biz from London theatergoers affected by the economic downturn by offering a “Crunch Buster” ticket that will allow a family of four to see a Mackintosh production for £50 ($73.92).

Initiative mirrors those offered by Broadway producers, who are touting discounts to boost biz on the Rialto during the slow winter months that may turn out to be harsher than usual thanks to the current economic climate.

The Blighty offer is good for two adults and two kids at West End productions of “The Phantom of the Opera,” “Les Miserables,” “Avenue Q” and “Oliver!”; program also applies to the U.K. tour of “Mary Poppins.”

A limited number of tickets will be made available for weekday perfs from January until April, with ticket buyers also eligible for hotel discounts that may also help prompt travel.
