“American Idol” finalist Diana DeGarmo and Joshua Henry (“In the Heights”) have joined the cast of the upcoming Broadway revival of “Godspell,” appearing alongside previously announced Gavin Creel as Jesus.
DeGarmo has done a couple of stints in the Rialto production of “Hairspray,” where her engagements brought modest but noticeable boosts to that show’s box office.
Henry will play Judas in “Godspell,” the Biblical 1971 tuner by Stephen Schwartz (“Wicked”) and John-Michael Tebelak.
Telly Leung (“Flower Drum Song”) and David Josefsberg (“Altar Boyz”) are among the thesps joining DeGarmo in the musical’s ensemble. Show is helmed by Daniel Goldstein, revisiting a production he originally staged at the Paper Mill Playhouse in 2006.
Produced by Adam Epstein, Broadway Across America and Stewart F. Lane/Bonnie Comley, “Godspell” begins previews at the Barrymore Sept. 29 ahead of an Oct. 23 opening.
