Puck is turning out to be an unlucky part at Hartford Stage.
Francis Jue, who was playing the forest fairy in the Hartford Stage production of William Shakespeare’s “A Midsummer Night’s Dream,” sustained a back injury during a rappelling scene Wednesday, causing him to drop out of the show.
It is the second replacement for the character in the production, directed by Lisa Peterson. Euan Morton pulled out earlier this month due to an emergency appendectomy.
Thursday night’s first preview was canceled. An understudy will go on, script in hand, Friday and Saturday. Sunday’s matinee is also canceled.
Jue will be replaced by Danyon Davis, who previously appeared in “A Midsummer Night’s Dream” at the Guthrie Theater in Minneapolis. Davis is expected to begin perfs Aug. 31.
The show opens Sept. 5. The run continues through Oct. 5.
