“The Mysteries of Harris Burdock,” a new musical inspired by the children’s book by Chris Van Allsburg (“Jumanji,” “The Polar Express”), will open the Musical Theater Lab at Barrington Stage Company in summer.
The Lab, headed by composer William Finn and the theater’s artistic director, Julianne Boyd, has produced a trio of new works from young composers for the past two summers. “Harris Burdock” was presented in August as a workshop in the Massachusetts Berkshires.
Running June 18-July 5, the show is by Chris Miller and Nathan Tyson (“The Burnt Part Boys”), and directed by Joe Calarco.
Barrington Stage, located in Pittsfield, Mass., will open its three-play, mainstage season with Finn’s “The 25th Annual Putnam County Spelling Bee,” a musical that premiered three years ago on the theater’s second stage. Directed by Boyd, the tuner runs June 11-July 12.
