Virenque to chair EAO board

Exec replaces Lepine-Karnik

PARIS — The European Audiovisual Observatory has elected Antoine Virenque, secretary general of the Intl. Federation of Film Distributors Associations, as chair of its advisory committee.

Based in Strasbourg, France, the EAO is a non-profit public service institute providing statistical and analytical information on the European audiovisual sector.

Its membership consists of 36 European countries and the European Commission.

EAO executive director Wolfgang Closs said that Virenque’s election comes at a critical period for the European film industry, considering the challenges and questions presented by digital rollout.

“The European Audiovisual Observatory needs to be informed about the preoccupations and information needs of the professionals in the business of film distribution,” Closs said.

Virenque takes over the chair from Valerie Lepine-Karnik, the director general of the Intl. Federation of Film Producers Associations.
