Local pics break record in Norway

'Kautokeino Rebellion' topped box office

STOCKHOLM — The market share for domestic films in Norway hit a record 26% during the first six months of the year.

Local films grossed $18.2 million at the box office out of a total of $72.3 million.

In 2007, the Norwegian market share was 16.4% and local films made just $21 million.

“The Kautokeino Rebellion” topped the B.O. list with $4.6 million; “Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull” made $4.5 million to come in second. Succeeding spots went to local comedy “Lange flate baller II” $4.1 million, “Sex and the City” $3.9 million, “Alvin and the Chipmunks” $3 million, “The Kite Runner” $2.8 million, “National Treasure: Book of Secrets” $2.4 million, local pic “The Man who Loved Yngve” $2.4 million, “Atonement” $2.3 million and “The Bee Movie” $2.2 million.

During the first six months admissions rose to 5,160,787 compared to 5,152,697 the same period in 2007.

Birgitte Langballe at film org Film & Kino said, “Norway is in line with the European trend toward local product, while Hollywood loses ground.”
