Greatguns, Maison team up

Pair set up Bangkok company

BANGKOK — U.K. production outfit Greatguns has teamed up with top Thai production houses to create a new venture in TV commercials and production services for international movies and TV.

Greatguns Bangkok is a joint venture between Greatguns London and Maison Film, subsidiary of leading Thai commercials production firm Siam Studio.

“We wanted to set up an office here because, geographically, Bangkok is strategically placed midway between South and East Asia,” m.d. of Greatguns Bangkok, Miles Johnson said. “But the most important thing is that no one can beat Bangkok in terms of cost and quality for production and post-production. The best talent and equipment are also already here.”

Kwanchai Sinpermpoon, m.d. of Maison Film, said his firm’s expertise in producing TV commercials complements Greatguns’ international reputation and experience. “This is a long-term commitment. We believe that we can become the center of Asia in terms of TV ad productions,” he said.

Since its inception late last year, Greatguns Bangkok has begun producing international TV commercials for clients including Coca-Cola and Cadillac.

Greatguns Bangkok is also providing production services for the shoot of a new TV series “Scarlet,” being produced for the U.S. market by Blighty production firm GoodTV.

The director, David Nutter, who directed episodes of “Band of Brothers,” “Entourage” and helmed the ratings-searing pilot of “The Sarah Connor Chronicles,” is currently lensing in Bangkok. “ ‘Scarlet’ is the starting point for us to expand into providing production services to feature films shooting in Thailand,” Johnson said.
