MADRID — Playing off its world premiere in the Cannes Market, Safy Nebbou’s psychological thriller “L’empreinte de l’ange” (Mark of an Angel) has been sold by Celluloid Dreams to Benelux (Lumiere), Canada (Les Films Seville), Greece (Odeon), Israel (United King) and Switzerland (Xenix).
Deals add to a pickup by Metrodome for the U.K., announced last week.
Bound for a berth in an international festival, Nebbou’s second feature after 2004’s “The Giraffe’s Neck” stars Catherine Frot and Sandrine Bonnaire.
Based on a true story, the thriller turns on a woman who’s convinced she sees the daughter she lost as a baby in a hospital fire. But the young girl’s mother opposes the woman’s attempts to reclaim her daughter.
“Angel” has been produced by Diaphana’s Michel Saint-Jean (“Harry He’s Here to Help,” “The Page Turner”). Diaphana bows “Angel” in France on August 13.
