After hosting Hollywood and European productions by heavyweights including Bryan Singer, Stephen Daldry, the Wachowskis and Roman Polanski, Berlin is now wooing Bollywood.
Regional film org Medienboard Berlin-Brandenburg will tubthump the international appeal of the German capital, not to mention its subsidy coin, at a special event on Sunday in Mumbai to an audience of Indian producers and creative professionals.
Among the highlights of the presentation will be a discussion on co-production and the development of potential joint projects.
Bollywood pics and stars, including Shah Rukh Khan, enjoy massive popularity and huge fan followings in Germany.
“Attractive financing and funding opportunities, internationally competitive service providers, a large pool of creative cinema professionals and a wide array of impressive settings make Germany’s capital region an internationally attractive location for film production,” said Christiane Raab, head of the Berlin Brandenburg Film Commission.
Part of the Medienboard, the BBFC is the main contact agency for foreign production companies and filmmakers interested in shooting in the region. The BBFC provides assistance with applications, shooting permits, locations and equipment and also facilitates other necessary contacts.
With an overall subsidy of E30 million ($39 million), the Medienboard is Germany’s second-biggest regional film fund behind North Rhine-Westphalia’s Filmstiftung NRW.
