Festival unveils Canadian Images lineup

HOLLYWOOD — The Vancouver Film Festival unveiled the Canadian Images lineup on Wednesday, and literary adaptations figure highly again.

Programmer Terry McEvoy and associate programmer Sarah Muff selected 90 films from 600 submissions for the sidebar, which will comprise 23 features, 10 feature-length documentaries and 57 shorts.

The section opens with “Stone of Destiny,” Charles Martin Smith’s take on Ian Hamilton’s true story of the unusual theft of an important cultural artifact.

It also includes Atom Egoyan’s “Adoration,” which won the Ecumenical Prize at Cannes this year and Deepa Mehta’s “Heaven on Earth.”

The fest, which runs Sept. 25-Oct. 10, will feature 575 screenings of more than 300 films from 60 countries, including 12 world premieres, 27 international preems, 50 North American preems and 41 Canadian preems.
