Tropfest names ‘Marry’ best film

Watts, Rush led festival jury

SYDNEY — A comedy about a little girl’s pursuit of a distracted little boy, “Marry Me” was judged best film by a jury led by Geoffrey Rush and Naomi Watts at the 16th annual short film festival Tropfest in Sydney’s Domain parklands Feb. 17.

Pic by up-and-comer Michelle Lehman featuring a suburban bicycle showdown unspooled with 15 other finalists before about 50,000, a crowd down slightly from previous years due to rain.

John Polson, founder of the free event, introduced the screenings, which started out in a tiny cafe and over time have spawned a mini-festival including a junior section and a prize that includes feature film funding.
