LONDON — John Maybury’s Dylan Thomas biopic “The Edge of Love” will open the Edinburgh Intl. Film Festival on June 18.
Romantic drama “The Edge of Love,” which stars Keira Knightley, Cillian Murphy, Matthew Rhys and Sienna Miller, sees the poet Thomas (Rhys) torn between two women — his adventurous wife (Miller) and his childhood sweetheart (Knightley), with whom he is reunited in wartime London.
“I couldn’t be happier to be opening this most auspicious festival with this utterly seductive and fascinating film, which stars some of the most charismatic young performers in the business, and affirms John Maybury as one of our most important directors,” EIFF artistic director Hannah McGill said.
“It’s a film that I personally adore, and opening with it is the perfect expression of our commitment to intelligent, impassioned, exciting new filmmaking.”
Maybury’s previous “Love Is the Devil” scooped the Michael Powell award at Edinburgh in 1998.
The Scottish fest runs June 18-29.
“Love” will open in London on June 20 prior to a nationwide release on June 27 through Lionsgate U.K.
