Legendary hits ‘Patrol’ path

Cirulnick to adapt Hilton's screenplay

Legendary Pictures is developing an elaborate 2010 cross-platform launch for “The Lost Patrol,” a supernatural thriller script it has acquired for Matt Cirulnick.

Cirulnick will adapt Andrew Hilton’s screenplay.

Company, basking in the success of “Dark Knight” along with partner Warners this week, intends to develop “The Lost Patrol” as a transmedia property similar to “Heroes,” “Star Trek” and “Lost.” Filmmakers will tailor tie-ins for various digital platforms from the outset, likely including cell phone, videogame and Internet.

This format-agnostic approach is designed to feed into, and build, a devoted following for film or TV properties. It has worked especially well on sci-fi projects in the past.

Rick Porras and Steven Boyd are producing the project. Producers originally met while working for Robert Zemeckis on “Forrest Gump” and “Contact”; Porras went on to co-produce the “Lord of the Rings” trilogy, and Boyd co-produced Zemeckis’ “Polar Express,” “Beowulf” and the upcoming “Christmas Carol.”

Cirulnick has several projects in the works, including “Stones,” a supernatural thriller Ridley Scott will helm for Fox 2000, New Regency’s “Elysium” and “Vandal” for Spyglass.

Legendary has several other inhouse productions on the fire, including “Paradise Lost,” “Warcraft” and “Kung Fu.” Projects at Warners include “Watchmen,” “Ninja Assassin” and “Clash of the Titans.”
