‘John’ nabs Nordic Panorama prize

Animation 'Lies' given honorary mention

STOCKHOLM — Norwegian helmer Havard Bustnes’ “Big John” won the Nordic documentary prize at the Nordic Panorama Wednesday.

Event is the region’s largest festival for docs and shorts.

Pic is about champion boxer Ole Lukkoye, who was trained by his father.

Honorary mentions went to Swedish helmer Jonas Odell’s “Lies,” a toonpic about the lies people tell, and Finnish director John Webster’s “Recipes for Disasters,” about a family trying to survive a year with using any oil-based products.

Best short was won by Danish helmer Martin de Thurah for “Young Men Falling,” with an honorary mention to “The Tale of Little Puppetboy” by Swedish helmer Johannes Nyholm.

The Canal Plus prize for a short was won by Denmark’s “Out of Spjald” by Lars Wass and Thomas Glud.

This year’s event, which ran Sept. 26-Oct. 1, was held in Malmo in the south of Sweden. Next year’s Nordic Panorama will be held in Reykjavik, Iceland, Sept. 25-30.
