LONDON — U.K. indie Icon Film Distribution has acquired U.K. theatrical and homevid rights to “Man on Wire,” James Marsh’s British doc which scooped the jury prize and audience award in the world cinema doc competition at Sundance 2008.
Deal was done between IFD and British production company Wall to Wall.
“Man on Wire” re-tells daredevil Philippe Petit’s illegal scheme to walk a high wire between New York’s Twin Towers in 1974. Petit and his accomplices executed their intricate plan to break into the nearly finished World Trade Center towers.
“Man on Wire” is a Discovery Films, BBC, U.K. Film Council presentation of a Wall to Wall production, in association with Red Box Films. Simon Chinn produces.
Magnolia Pictures will distribute in North America. The Works are handling all other international sales for the film, which has sold to Australia and New Zealand (Madman), Benelux (Cineart), France (Diaphana), Germany and Austria (Arsenal) and Spain.
