BERLIN — In a staff shuffle at the Berlin Film Festival, Maryanne Redpath has been named director of the children and youth section Generation, while Thomas Hailer, the sidebar’s former head, will move to a new post assisting fest topper Dieter Kosslick as the Berlinale’s program manager.
Redpath, Generation’s co-director, replaces Hailer May 1.
Redpath has worked for the festival since 1993 and served as the Berlinale’s delegate for Australia and New Zealand since 2005.
Florian Weghorn, who has assisted Generation’s management since 2002, will succeed Redpath as co-director.
“With the introduction of 14plus and many other innovations, including the expansion of our complex commitment to film education, Generation has grown enormously,” Kosslick said. “With Maryanne Redpath and Florian Weghorn, we are delighted to have a well-established team to direct the section and further its development.”
In his new post, Hailer will assist the festival director in all matters relevant to the program and closely collaborate with Karin Hoffinger, who oversees the Berlinale’s international relations and program organization, and Johanna Muth, who is in charge of competition program coordination. Hailer will focus primarily on managing items and activities in the program that fall under Kosslick’s direct jurisdiction. He will also synchronize the many program-related communication processes between the different sections and departments of the fest.
