Afro-Punk Festival set for July

BAMcinematek kicks off fourth annual event

BAMcinematek’s fourth annual “Afro-Punk Festival” runs through July 13 at BAM Rose Cinemas.

Fest showcases 19 features, shorts and docs depicting black rebellion and struggle. Featured helmers will introduce their pics and do Q&As.

Aaron Matthew’s docu “Panther in Africa” will open the series, followed by Eric Matz’s “The Federation of Black Cowboys”; 1977’s “Passing Through,” with a Q&A with helmer Larry Clark; James Spooner’s feature “White Lies, Black Sheep”; and Jennifer Sharp’s comedy “I’m Through With White Girls,” from 2007. Hal Ashby’s 1970 pic “The Landlord” will close the fest.
