Carl Reiner & Rob Reiner

Achievement in Film Awards

Father-and-son duo Carl and Rob Reiner have forged a transgenerational brand that has reached all the way to the Holy Land.

Carl became a household name for his TV work, including “The Dick Van Dyke Show,” then went on to direct hit feature comedies, including “All of Me,” “Oh, God!” and “The Jerk.”

“One of the most important things he ever taught me is never be so cocksure of yourself that you can’t take a suggestion from someone else,” “Dick Van Dyke” star Mary Tyler Moore tells Variety.

Moore also remembers the day 12-year-old Rob swatted her on the behind and she stormed off to complain to Carl. “I was so outraged,” she says. “(But) as soon as the words came out of my mouth I felt like the world’s greatest prude.”

Not so many years later, Rob nabbed an Emmy for playing Mike “Meathead” Stivic on “All in the Family.” Like his father, he went on to success as a movie director, starting with mocumentary “This Is Spinal Tap” and continuing with such films as “When Harry Met Sally … ” and “A Few Good Men.”

“For Israeli filmmakers, Rob Reiner represents the highest level a filmmaker can be influenced from,” says Meir Fenigstein, exec director of the Israel Film Fest.

    Film Review: 'Shazam!'

In “Shazam!,” Zachary Levi brings off something so winning it’s irresistible. He plays a square-jawed, rippling-muscled man of might, with a cheesy Day-Glo lighting bolt affixed to his chest, who projects an insanely wholesome and old-fashioned idea of what a superhero can be. But he’s also playing a breathless teenage kid on the inside, and [...]
