WGA West lauds Don Mankiewicz

Guild veteran to receive Morgan Cox award

The WGA West has selected Don M. Mankiewicz to receive its Morgan Cox award for service to the guild in helping to empower his fellow writers.

He will be feted at the WGA’s honorary awards luncheon on Wednesday at the Westin Bonaventure Hotel in Los Angeles.

Mankiewicz has been a WGA member since 1952 and served on the board from 1993-2001, as well as from 2003-05. He also served on the following committees: constitutional review, awards, contract adjustment negotiating, pre-’60s residuals, screen/TV credits and waiver.

His TV credits include “Ironside,” “Marcus Welby, M.D.” and “MacGyver.” Feature credits include “Fast Company,” “House of Numbers” and “The Black Bird.”

Mankiewicz has published three novels, including “Trial,” which won the 1958 Harper Prize. He served on the board of the New York branch of the Academy of Television Arts & Sciences and as president of the Producers Guild of America during the ‘90s.
