Television: Supporting Actor

2008 Golden Globes nominees

Ted Danson, “Damages”
Kevin Dillon, “Entourage”
Jeremy Piven, “Entourage”
Andy Serkis, “Longford”
William Shatner, “Boston Legal”
Donald Sutherland, “Dirty Sexy Money”

As with the actresses, more of a mishmash here. Andy Serkis — known to many as Gollum in the “Lord of the Rings” trilogy — is the only actor nominated for his work in a telepic rather than a full-length series. While his perf in “Longford” was chillingly effective, it seems beyond odd that he would compete in the same category with the others.

Kevin Dillon and Jeremy Piven of the “Entourage” gang had some fun moments this past season while “Cheers” alum Ted Danson displayed a welcome nasty side in FX’s topnotch drama “Damages.”

William Shatner has long ago proved that many see him now only as attorney Denny Crane on “Boston Legal” rather than as Capt. Kirk on “Star Trek.”

While “Dirty Sexy Money” can be uneven at times, Donald Sutherland always adds a touch of class to whatever scene he’s in.
