Korean Film Awards catch ‘Chaser’

Film sweeps top prizes

SEOUL — “The Chaser” swept the 7th Korean Film Awards on Thursday night in Seoul, South Korea, winning for best picture, best director and new director for Na Hong-jin, actor for Kim Yoon-suk plus taking the awards for screenplay, lighting and editing.

“Crush and Blush” took best actress for Gong Hyo-jin, a first in her career, and best new actress for Seo Woo, who played a weird middle-school girl collaborating with Gong.

Hit Korean Western, “The Good, the Bad, the Weird” nabbed honors for cinematography, art direction, sound and visual effects.

Best supporting actor and actress awards went to Park Hee-soon for “Seven Days” and Kim Ji-young for “Forever the Moments” respectively, the same results as last month’s Blue Dragon Awards.

Kang Ji-whan, one of the two male leads of “Rough Cut,” picked up kudos for best new actor, while the music award went to “GoGo 70s.”
