HONG KONG — Bollywood major UTV has unveiled a slate of five movies in India’s Tamil and Telegu languages.
It has set “Poi solla poram,” a Tamil co-production with Four Frames, as the first. A 54-print opening in Tamil Nadu state is skedded for Sept. 12.
Pic, a remake of Hindi hit “Khosla ka ghosla,” is presented by Priyadarshan and helmed by Vijay Anand.
“The best and most original stories are told in the South. We plan to collaborate with key talent in the South market and build a slate of great movies in the next few year,” said Ram Mirchandani, founder and chief creative officer of UTV Rampage Motion Pictures.
Company has signed multi-movie deals with thesps Vikram and Suriya. It will shoot Suriya starrer “Mugammoodi,” directed by Mysskin, in May. Company will also produce trilingual pic (Tamil, Telugu, Hindi) “Lost in Chennai” and an untitled pic by director Selvaraghavan.
In January it will crank up its first Telegu pic, an untitled effort by Gautham Menon, starring Mahesh Babu.
