Fortissimo nabs int’l rights to ‘Miao’

Film is feature debut of Cheng Hsiao Tse

Fortissimo Films has picked up international sales rights to “Miao Miao,” a Taiwanese multisexual drama produced by Wong Kar Wai’s Jet Tone Films and J.A. Movies (H.K.).

Pic is the feature helming debut of Cheng Hsiao Tse, an acclaimed short film director. Warner Bros. will release it mid-November in Taiwan, with Golden Scene distributing in Hong Kong at the end of the month.

Jet Tone plans to release a series of films based on the “Miao Miao” shooting model centered on subjects important to young people, and “expand the possibilities of the world of film.” Pic is edited by Wong’s regular collaborator, William Chang Suk-ping.

“ ‘Miao Miao’ highlights the multilayered and multisexual texture of Taiwan’s dynamic youth culture,” said Michael J. Werner, co-chief of Fortissimo.

Fortissimo will open the pic for sales at the AFM, handling territories outside Hong Kong, Taiwan and China.
