Shari Redstone

Publishing executive

Just a year ago, reports indicated that Midway Games, bleeding red ink, was the primary cause of tension between Sumner Redstone, who owns 87% of the struggling midsize publisher, and his daughter Shari, who plays a major role in the Redstone family’s businesses. But in December, Shari had a change of heart and decided to try to clean things up by taking over as chairman.

Three months later, Shari fired CEO David Zucker and said she wanted to “renew Midway’s position as a major player in the videogame industry.” Now observers are wondering whether that means she will soon hire a new topper and hope upcoming games like “Mortal Kombat vs. DC Universe” and Vin Diesel starrer “Wheelman” improve the company’s fortunes, or if she’s trying to engineer a takeover that could end Midway’s days as an independent company.
