SINGAPORE — Market research giant GfK forecasts that the retail value of Hong Kong’s game software market will hit USD72 million in 2008. That represents 15 percent growth compared with last year.

Predictions are the result of GfK extending its research coverage to games in Asia for the first time. Company currently measures the sector in Europe, Oz and New Zealand.

GfK’s analysis of the Hong Kong market show business dominated by action, sports and shooting games. Portable games take a large 31 percent of the total, reflecting lower prices and consumers’ highly mobile lifestyles.

Company says it will extend games software tracking to Taiwan, Korea and Singapore within the next six months.
