BBC Worldwide, the commercial arm of the BBC, announced Thursday a licensing deal with cell phone maker Nokia to provide premium video content on the Nokia N96 handset in Singapore, the Philippines, Thailand and Malaysia.
Episodes from BBC shows “Doctor Who,” “Walking With Dinosaurs” and “Tribe 2” plus scenes from the “Top Gear” motoring skein can be viewed in the Nokia N96’s My Videos folder.
A special activation code allows the customer to access and download rights-protected BBC content through a BBC branded page within Nokia’s website. Clips can be viewed for a month.
“This is the first time BBC Worldwide has done a licensing agreement of this kind in Asia. It offers us a great opportunity to showcase BBC content on a new platform,” said Joyce Yeung, BBC Worldwide’s senior VP and general manager of sales and distribution in Asia.
