In 2007, Stars for a Cause auctioned off celebrity portraits, raising $250,000 for charity.
This year, on Sept. 12, the celebs design their own art, in this case, jewelry to be worn on the red carpet at the Emmys. The nonprofit org joins with “Entertainment Tonight” to present star-designed necklaces, earrings, rings , etc. Those not attending the Emmys will get their shot to design-and-show come Golden Globes and Oscar nights in 2009. In June, Bonhams & Butterfields will auction all the jewelry to benefit the Prince’s Trust as well as other philanthropies favored by participating celeb-designers.
“We’re giving this year’s award season’s nominees and presenters the opportunity to have some fun and demonstrate their creativity by designing their own jewelry to wear on the red carpet,” says George Braunstein, co-founder of Stars for a Cause.
An exhibition of the Stars for a Cause jewelry tours L.A., New York and London next spring prior to the Bonhams & Butterfield auction.
