Army dons an ape costume to interview Charlton HestonFor those of you who asked — yes, it is yours truly in complete ape makeup and costume as seen in the photo with my archival column in today’s Daily Variety.

Producer Arthur Jacobs (a former press agent) wanted me to get the story from the horse’s mouth –excuse it — from the apes’ mouth on the set of "The Planet of the Apes." And that’s where I interviewed Charlton Heston.

P.S. It was a hot story — at least it was hot inside that monkey suit.
