It’s Back To Bart

Simpsons_bart_2With “The Simpsons Movie” now over the $315 million mark worldwide, the cast returns to TV taping chores on Thursday. Nancy Cartwright (Bart Simpson) and I had a long talk via phone Monday — our earlier chats having been canceled while she was laryngitis — downed following the pre-post premiere parties. “There are no more years on the contract (for the actors),” she said. And they are halfway thru taping this season. “But the movie has put another wind on the series — although there is no correlation between the movie and the TV — and nothing as shocking as in the movie,” she reminded.

Cartwright, who will be “five times Bart’s age” (10) on her next birthday (Oct. 25), is heavily involved in fundraising for children’s charities. She told me that, thanks to Mayor Villaraigosa, a million-dollar check was OK’d for the start of a PAL youth center in Northridge. She’s an “anonymous donor” in the group that has already raised $1.5 million. Another large contribution will be forthcoming from a September 29 No Limit Texas Hold ‘Em Tournament and Monte Carlo Night to be held on her valley home property. (Open to the public — $500 per person, $250 for non-players. The top five players will receive seats at the next World Series of Poker Satellite Tournament. She hopes to have 500 people attending this year. The event will boast gourmet food, entertainment and celebs.  Cartwright says she’ll invite some of her fellow Church of Scientology poker-playing friends — like Kelly Preston and John Travolta and Katie Holmes and Tom Cruise — to play. Cartwright said she sponsored one of N.Y. City’s 9/11 firefighters treated in Cruise’s detox program. She told me, “I’ve been there and I’ve seen the heroes, and the program Tom has sponsored. It’s phenomenal. Eight hundred has gone through the program.”

Apart from her full sked on “The Simpsons,” “The Replacements” and other shows, Cartwright also heads the Sports Blast  LLC production company, but does not appear on its programs–yet. She knows where the action is in the car racing circle, having received her NASCAR Driving License in March.  She drove at a top speed of 158.3–with a governor aboard, adding, “I could go 190.”

Next spring, Cartwright will wed high-end general contractor Steve Brackett. The only two words she revealed about the wedding ceremony: “MARCHING BANDS.”

Bart would like that.

Bart & Placido

Nancy Cartwright’s “Simpsons'” session as Bart with Placido Domingo, taped six months ago for airing next month, was not their first meeting. Nancy’s children and Placido’s grandchildren attend the same (private) school. And they also vacationed with them at Placido’s estate in Acapulco. As for the taping session when Placido was “Simpson-ized,” Nancy says, “He was so funny and he kept presenting different ideas. He was having the best time — and to hear just one note of Placido set my heart flying.” (She had not heard him sing with L.A’s.Opera).
